Tribal Interiors Ltd. was established in the UK in 2003 by it’s founder and managing director Mr.Shafiq Afridi. Now widely regarded and respected as an authority in his field, Mr.Afridi has been importing and wholesaling fine quality and unique hand crafted rugs, textiles and furniture for many years from such exotic locations as the Swat valley, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Uzbekistan.

A Family Tradition.
 
There is of course a long tradition involved here. Mr.Afridi’s own company in London and much of his experience stem from the Afridi family business which has been in operation since 1975 and is based in Peshawar, Pakistan. Shafiq in fact grew up in the business and has travelled Central Asia extensively from a relatively early age. From this he has built up an wide-ranging knowledge of the region, it’s history, tradition and artisan crafts and is now in the process of encapsulating what he has seen, learned and experienced in his first book entitled; Treasures of the Swat Valley.

The Next Step.

Up to now the activities of the family business have been far-reaching, exporting the craft of the oriental artisan to America, Canada, Australia and Europe and this is still a growing and thriving enterprise. However, Shafiq, in conjunction with his business partner Michael Prato thought it was time for change and as such the centre of operations has moved. This is a new phase of endeavour allowing the public direct access to the art and craft of Central Asia.

Something for Everyone.

Tribal Interiors Ltd. is now located in Royal Tunbridge Wells in the heart of leafy Kent, an extremely beautiful part of England. Here you will find not only the artefact of a truly exotic part of the world but possibly also gain some insight into a faraway culture, its people and it’s history. Each item on display in the showrooms was individually chosen by Shafiq himself or his business partner Michael for its beauty, uniqueness and quality of craftsmanship. From beautifully hand crafted oriental rugs to very affordable yet intricately hand painted and surprisingly delicate camel hide lamps. At Tribal Interiors there is something for everyone in terms of style, diversity, colour and of course price.

P.S. When you do drop by, for a bit of fun, ask Shafiq about the history of some of the pieces on display. I think you’ll find it very interesting and in some cases quite surprising.
